Officially a Runner

I ran a 5K last weekend! For a girl who has asthma and always thought that she couldn't run this is a big deal. I have always enjoyed sports but have never been very good at them and I used to get winded after a very short period of exercise.
I decided to start running last year after watching Barrett and his family complete several half-marathons. I also desperately wanted to lose weight and get in shape.
So here I am, after slowly building up my milage I made a break-through and ran 3 miles just 1 week before the 5k.

Starting Line - Publix Run Wild 5k

Here I am getting ready to start

Finishing the race, very tired after all those hills

Its now less than 1 week after the race and today I ran 4 miles, yippee for getting more milage. The end goal (for now) is to run a half-marathon next february.

Happy Spring

I can't believe that i have been absent from the blogging world for over 2 months. During that time I've been a little bit busy and I just haven't had the motivation to blog. So here's a glimpse at what we've been up to. Pictures will come soon, I have them on my phone and just haven't bothered to move them onto the computer yet.

January 28th - We closed on our house and spent the weekend moving. It has taken a long time to get settled and we still have things we want to do but that will all come in time. We love our house!! This spring we will be putting up a fence, re-doing the master bathroom, building a new laundry room, and hopefully painting. We also have a hot tub that we need to get someone to come and look at. We don't know if it works and we have no idea how to take care of it. We ordered new furniture and it was delivered this past weekend so we now really love our living room!

Barrett and I have both been pretty busy with work/school. I enjoy my job but I sure am glad to get home and rest in the evenings.

I've also been running. My goal is to run the Disney Princess Half-Marathon next Feb so I've started training now. This past weekend I ran a 5K and actually did pretty well. I'm going to keep running and I think I will find a 10K to run this summer sometime. We got a treadmill on black friday last year so we set our basement up as a workout and TV room. We have the Wii down there so we can run, do Wii fit, or just play games :)

We have lots of plans coming up - trips to visit friends, Meghan's wedding, and we both have conferences to attend this summer. Hopefully I won't be absent for this long again.

2011 Here We Come

Happy New Year!!!

We had a very full and eventful Christmas and New Years. We got to spend a lot of great time with family and friends and feel so blessed to have them all in our lives. We are starting to get back into our normal routines and are excited to see what 2011 has in store for us.
On the house front - The bank pretty much sucks. They made a major mistake and now we are having to basically start over on our loan process. Please pray that it all gets done before Jan 31st because that is when we get kicked out of our apartment.
We have been enjoying the Wii that we got from my parents and have being doing a good bit of Wii fit. I am also planning on continuing my running. I decided that I need to set closer goals so I am going to run in a 5k on March 19th. I figure if I have several goals throughout the year I will be more likely to reach my half-marathon next February goal.

Thanksgiving

So this is long long overdue. I just realized that i haven't posted in a long time, which includes tales of Thanksgiving. I don't have any pictures to go with this post because we had so much fun that I forgot to take any while we had visitors.
So on the Tues before Thanksgiving Andrew and Lorri arrived, Wed Kathy and Walker arrived. We had a great time hanging out and cooking to get ready for Thanksgiving.
On Thanksgiving day Walker's dad and my parents arrived. We watched the parade and football and ate way too much, after dinner while the guys watched more football the girls played games.

Lorri is a hardcore sale shopper so Kathy and I went black friday shopping with her. We were all so tired but got a lot of good deals. We started at midnight and went to Old Navy and Walmart. Then after a short sleep we went out for breakfast with the parents and proceeded to shop more. I got lots of gifts for people along with a few things from myself. My big purchase was a treadmill for our new house which I got a really good deal on. Now I just can't wait to get into the house so I can break the treadmill out of the box.

On the house front, we are possibly going to close this week but Barrett and I are not very optimistic. Please pray that we close soon and all of this stress will be over with!

I will try to take pictures during our christmas travels

Lesson in Patience

Me and Patience don't really mix but I've had to work really hard at it these past few weeks. Shortly after starting my job Barrett and I got pre-approved for a loan and started looking at houses. After a few weeks we decided there was one we really liked. Unfortunately, the day we decided to put an offer on it, the house went to auction. This is been the most stressful and time consuming process. They suggested that we put our loan through first to make sure we didn't lose any earnest money after putting an offer down. After more than a week we found out that our loan got approved and we made an offer. Now we are waiting to hear whether our offer has been accepted. We should hear back today or tomorrow and as soon as we do I will post some pictures of the house!

Good Eats

A few weeks ago I saw that Alton Brown was about to come out with a new book. I figured, "what a perfect Christmas gift for Barrett" But then I saw that Alton was going to be doing a book signing in Atlanta (he lives here) so I decided that I couldn't just get this book for Barrett when there was an opportunity to go meet him. It was a long evening. Alton started speaking around 7:30, talking about the book and answering questions, then he proceeded to signing the books. We finally got up to him around 10:45. I can't even imagine having to sign books for that long. There was still at least an hours worth of people in line behind us. It was a fun experience though. I'm so glad we live in a city where we have opportunities like this.
